Swim Gym is the areas premier children’s swim training center. Swim Gym specializes in Infant Swim Training, Stroke Lessons and Pediatric Aquatic Therapy.
Constantly curious and exploring, children have an uncanny ability to overcome any obstacle placed between them and the water. Swim Gym empowers young children to be safe in and around the water through our individualized skill training in water self rescue.
Infant Swimming Resource Training
ISR is not a traditional swimming program. This training focuses on teaching small children, between the ages of 6 months and 6 years, the skills that could potentially save them should they ever fall into water unattended. Children can learn very early to swim, since swimming is a sensory motor skill, and a student does not need to be verbal to learn.
Due to the learning style of young children, lessons are required 5 days a week, and are approximately 10 minutes in length. While this might sound like a very short class time, lessons are one-on-one, and takes into account the child’s muscle fatigue, which can set in quickly, and their attention span.
The teaching is individualized and gentle, taught at your child's emotional and physical pace, with safety always being the first priority above all else. Your child will learn to swim, roll over onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and repeat this process until they can swim to safety. These skills are shaped in small stages and are reinforced daily until their skills become stable. The parent or caregiver can watch and cheers for the student poolside.
Seeing your child become independent in the water makes the time commitment worth it. Lessons can begin any month based available sessions and your needs, however, the sooner you register the better to prevent being put on our wait list.
Pediatric Aquatic Therapy Services
Taking advantage of buoyancy and hydro-static pressure, one on one, individualized treatment is provided to improve sensory motor skills, fine and gross motor skills and endurance. We work with a variety of diagnosis such as Developmental Delay, Hypotonia, Sensory Processing Disorders, Autism, Motor disorders, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Chromosomal abnormalities, Rett’s Syndrome and many more.
Therapy in an aquatic environment allows children to learn new movements that would otherwise be too difficult to master on land. The child can practice new motor skills and adapt the skill to land-based therapy sessions.
The water slows the child down and allows him to react and experiment with the consequences of movement.
The hydro-static pressure of the water gives the body 360 degrees of deep pressure allowing the child's sensory system to regulate throughout the entire therapy session. This allows the child to have greater focus on gaining new skills.
Stroke Lessons
Students already skilled in basic water survival techniques can begin to learn the four competitive strokes. Stroke swim lessons focus on introducing, developing and refining the four competitive swimming strokes including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Emphasis is placed on increasing proficiency and technique of the four strokes, as well as building endurance. Personal water safety is also reinforced through the skills of swim-float-swim and elementary backstroke. Diving and flip turns can also be taught for participants interested in pursuing placement on a competitive swim team program. Instruction occurs in the form of 30-minute private or semi-private lessons to ensure skills and strokes are acquired quickly. Recommended frequency is two lessons per week for at least 1-2 months. Our classes have a maximum of two students per teacher to ensure each student gets the individualized attention needed to master these skills.
