Fall Crafts and Library Events 2023

From pumpkin decorations to holiday cake decorating workshops, Fall is the perfect time to get your DIY on!  There are a number of local businesses that offer fall crafts and classes to help you get your houses and businesses Halloween-ready!  Plus, our local libraries are a terrific FREE resource for fall fun!


   Michael's Kids Club DIY Workshops: Sundays from 2PM to 4PM at participating Michael's stores.  All supplies provided / while supplies last.

   Sep 12 and Oct 17 ~ Kid-Cuterie Workshop: Hosted by Pineapple Kitchen for children ages 6 to 16.  Each workshop includes a Keepsake Board and completed Charcuterie to bring home.  Holiday themes include September 12: Fall Fun Theme and October 17: Spooky Time Theme.  $55 per attendee.  5:30PM to 7PM.

   Sep 30 ~ Mommy and Me Cake Decorating Workshop: Hosted by Pineapple Kitchen. Kids ages 5 and up will learn cake decorating techniques with Halloween themes.  Techniques learned will be how to create a delicious buttercream icing, how to add color, use of pastry bags and different sized piping tips and their various uses for decorating. Learn how to do borders, inscriptions and roses. Each guest will receive three prepared 6” cake blanks to decorate as well as frosting in a piping bag with various tips. Decorate your cake while Chef Krissi shares useful tips to help you fine tune your piping technique.  At the end of the workshop, everyone will take home their Personal Piping Bag and Tip Kit with a boxed Seasonally Decorated Cake by YOU!  $75 adult / $55 child.  10AM to 12:30PM.

   Oct 3 ~ Spooky Leaf Monsters: We’re decorating leaves with silly faces, pipe cleaners and markers - These monsters are not so scary!  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 3-4 ~ Mornings with Mommy Lakewood Ranch: This week the theme is Fall Fun: Pumpkins and Leaves! Each session's activities includes arts and crafts, sensory table, story time, music, educational toys, and snack. The program costs only $5 per family per session and includes all snacks and activities. Sessions are held from 9:15AM to 10:15AM.  Registration highly suggested as sessions do fill up.

   Oct 5, 12, 19, 26 ~ Jack O' Lantern Workshop: Enjoy crafting with your own craft pumpkin in Area 52! Carve it, paint it, or whatever!  FREE at the Central Library.

   Oct 7 ~ Mad Science Halloween: Mad Science of Tampa Bay will be on-hand with a spooky show that features Science and a Mad Scientist Twist!  FREE at the Braden River Library.

   Oct 6 ~ Going Batty: What lives upside down and can fly, but has no feathers? Stella Luna, that's who! We are reading her story and following it with a bat-themed craft, along with a bat ring to take home.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 8 ~ Make N Take Party: $25 gets you a small build (Bat), light snack, and a trick or treat bag!  Participates must be 5+.  While supplies last!  At Bricks and Minifigs Sarasota.

   Oct 10 ~ The Runaway Pumpkin: Enjoy a reading of “The Runaway Pumpkin,” before making your upcycled pumpkin mosaic art.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 11 ~ Spooky Resin Mold: Create a truly unique display for yourself and your home! Choose your resin craft--teeth, eyeballs or fingers--to place in Halloween Resin Molds.  FREE at the Central Library.

   Oct 13 ~ Magic of Gardening: Come learn all about pumpkins and plant a pumpkin seed to take home and grow and enjoy some yummy homemade pumpkin bread with a nice fall breeze.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 14 ~ Mr. Stevey: Calm Characters - Halloween:  Features an art activity, music making, and read aloud featuring a mindful moment.  Geared towards pre-school and elementary school-aged children.  FREE.

   Oct 15 ~ Make N Take Party: $25 gets you a small build (Jack O Lantern), light snack, and a trick or treat bag!  Participates must be 5+.  While supplies last!  At Bricks and Minifigs Sarasota.

   Oct 17 ~ The Biggest Pumpkin Ever: Once there were two mice who fell in love with the same pumpkin… Join us for the story with a coloring sheet included after the story.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 17, 19 ~ Spooky Mask Making: Get in the spirit of the season with some unique a creative mask making in area 52! You can make them scary, silly, sad or happy!  FREE at the Central Library.

   Oct 18 ~ Costume Storytime: Join us for a special story time filled hour of Halloween stories, spooky music, dancing, and crafts! Costumes encouraged!  FREE at Palmetto Library.

   Oct 20 ~ Make Your Own Trick-or-Treat Baskets: Get ready for Halloween by making your own trick-or-treat canvas tote bag. Materials will be provided.  FREE at Central Library.

   Oct 20 ~ Painting Pumpkins: The St. Clair Butterfly Foundation has kindly donated pumpkins for us today - Come and paint your own pumpkin to bring home! (while pumpkins last.)  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 20 ~ Halloween Science Experiments: Come join Ms. Renee for some fun and spooky Halloween science experiments.  FREE at Central Library.

   Oct 22 ~ Make N Take Party: $25 gets you a small build (Black Cat Head), light snack, and a trick or treat bag!  Participates must be 5+.  While supplies last!  At Bricks and Minifigs Sarasota.

   Oct 23 ~ Family Fright Night: Join us for an evening of not-so-scary fun and games. Dress up for our annual costume parade and trick-or-treating! Make some spooky crafts, as well.  FREE at South Manatee Library.

   Oct 23 ~ Haunted Manatee County: Join the Paranormal Society of Bradenton and learn about the ghosts and history of Manatee County! Members of the group will show and explain their methods as well as the different technologies they use in their research. We might even discover our own Library ghost!  FREE at Island Branch Library.

   Oct 24 ~ Music Sticks: Come make your pretty fall musical sticks to usher in autumn with jingle bells and fall colored ribbons.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 26 ~ Florida's Neighborhood Bats: October 26-31 is National Bat Appreciation Month! Join the Florida Bat Conservancy to learn more about the bats we can find in Florida, how they positively impact our environment, and how you can help make sure these pollinators are safe!  FREE at Island Branch Library.

   Oct 27 ~ Step into a Story: We're reading the funny rhyming story about 4 witches, 4 cats, and 4 hats in "Witches Four," at the garden stage before using nature finds to make tiny witches' brooms.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 27 ~ Costume Baby Storytime: Join us in costume while we sing, play, dance, and read all while promoting your baby's development and literacy skills.  FREE at Palmetto Library.

   Oct 28 ~ Kid's Spook-Fest: Ready to celebrate Halloween the spooky way? Visit us at the library for face painting, games, treats, crafts, and a costume parade! Wear your costume and show it off for the world to see. FREE at Palmetto Library.

   Oct 28 ~ Weekend Workshop: LEGO Halloween: Hosted by Bricks 4 Kidz.  Join us for a fun Halloween-themed Saturday workshop.  Kids will use LEGO bricks to make some Halloween creatures.  Ages 5 to 12.  $35.

   Oct 28 ~ Spooktacular Story Time: Design your own ghost, show off your best BOO, and shake your ‘boo’ thing during this ghost-themed story time.

   Oct 28 ~ Weekend Workshop: LEGO Halloween: Hosted by Bricks4Kidz.  Kids will use LEGO bricks to make some Halloween creatures.  $35 per child (ages 5 to 12).

   Oct 28 ~ Teen Halloween Party: Come in costume, watch vintage Halloween movies, paint a pumpkin, or solve a murder! All craft materials and snacks will be provided.  FREE at Braden River Library.

   Oct 29 ~ Bubble and Brew ... A Witchy Halloween Just for You: The Children's Garden has transformed into a Witch's Garden with a Halloween Nature Scavenger Hunt along with a Bubble & Brew Station featuring crafts, story time and snacks.  10AM to 12PM.  Included in price of admission.  

   Oct 31 ~ It's a Spider Party: Learn about our little friends with eight legs! Plant a baby spider plant to take home, grab a spider ring and make a spider sandwich to enjoy.  Included with admission to Sarasota Children's Garden.

   Oct 31 ~ Outer Space Halloween Drop-In: Hosted by Little Discovery Center.  Join them for crafts, games and goodie bags.

   Oct 31 ~ Trick or Treat in the Library: Come to the Braden River Branch all dressed up, and wind your way through our library to gather some treats!
