Dino Don’s DinoVenture is roaring into The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Bradenton! This new outdoor experience opens Saturday, Oct. 23, and transports your family into a prehistoric realm of adventure, surrounding you with dozens of lifelike dinosaurs.
The fearsome apex predator Tyrannosaurs rex is here, along with a Triceratops mother and her baby. An Oviraptor guards her nest, while Velociraptors stalk the scene searching for their next meal. The Quetzalcoatlus, a giant pterosaur (ancient, winged reptile) with a wingspan of more than 30 feet, towers above you as you enter DinoVenture. These animatronic animals breathe, blink, roar, and flick their tails. And beware — some are so realistic that they even fart and pee!
Families who visit the Museum in addition to DinoVenture can see a fossil of a real dinosaur footprint, discover some of the animals and plants that shared the planet with dinosaurs, understand how fossils of pterosaurs may have led to the thunderbird myth of some Indigenous People, and see and hear modern-day avian dinosaurs – also known as birds!
The animals in DinoVenture were created by Don Lessem, the dinosaur advisor on Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” who is known worldwide for his dinosaur expertise. Lessem has written more than 40 popular science books about dinosaurs, has excavated and reconstructed skeletons of some of the largest dinosaurs that ever existed, and has a dinosaur — the Lessemsaurus — named for him.
There are different ticket choices so you can choose what works best for you and your family. The best deal is the DinoVenture-Museum combo pass, which gives you a $2 discount on each ticket and gets you into DinoVenture, as well as all parts of The Bishop: see the wild manatees in the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Center; explore the natural history museum; travel the universe in The Planetarium; and climb, play, and learn in the Mosaic Backyard Universe.
