Pinocchio Comes Alive at Florida Studio Theatre

A Puppet for All Ages

By Lydia Baxter October 3, 2019

Looking for new ways to spend quality family time with your little ones…without breaking the bank? Bradenton Macaroni Kid has the scoop on a new fun-filled family weekend activity that is sure to inspire fun, learning, and creativity.

What’s better than Saturday morning cartoons? A live theatre experience! Inspire your kids to take a break from screens for a few hours as the beloved classic of Pinocchio comes to life at Florida Studio Theatre beginning October 12.

(Savings alert: A subscription to four shows is just $20 – that’s only $5 per show)

Before the show even begins, your youngsters have the chance to dip their toe into Pinocchio’s magical world. They’ll get to see what it’s like to be a puppeteer themselves, and maybe even be inspired to make their own puppet when they get home!

In FST’s production of Pinocchio, adapted by Greg Banks, six craftsmen are fixing up the theatre, and have to tell the story of Pinocchio at the drop of a hat. Using nothing but the objects around them, these unexpected storytellers share the wooden puppet’s thrilling journey as he tries to achieve his dream of becoming a real boy.

And audiences get to help Pinocchio figure out what his next steps are along the way.

“Children are going to love Pinocchio because they get to be participants,” said Jason Cannon, Director of Pinocchio. “The storytellers ask the audience for help during key moments of the play.”

But amidst the fun and excitement of Pinocchio, there’s also a deeper truth that’s important for kids to remember. “We hope that children in the audience will be reminded that they are capable of more than they think, and that their imaginations are far more powerful than they realize.”

There’s something in it for adults too. “Adults will enjoy Pinocchio because they will get to experience a familiar story in a completely new way,” continued Cannon. “And most importantly, they share the entire experience with their own children.”

Perhaps Pinocchio will spark something unexpected in you! “This show reminds me how necessary it is to take journeys one step at a time, to cherish wisdom as something hard-earned and gained rather than given,” concluded Cannon.

Following the performance, your kids can ask the cast of Pinocchio about what they saw, heard, and felt during the show. Then they can get their photo taken with the cast and snag some autographs to take home with them.

Will you and your family be able to convince Pinocchio to go to school instead of playing all the time? Do you have what it takes to persuade Pinocchio to stay out of trouble? You can find out for yourself on weekends starting October 12. Tickets are only $10, or you can subscribe to FST’s four-show Children’s Theatre Series for just $20. That’s just $5 a show—you can’t beat that!
