With the recent release of The LEGO Movie 2, it was just a matter of time before Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment would release a corresponding video game. The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame will be released on February 26, 2019 on the PlayStation 4, X-Box One and PC platforms, as well as the Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2019. We were lucky enough to get our hands on an early copy and we have great news...everything is Awesome - Again!
This past weekend we invited some of our friends to a LEGO fun day. We started out watching The LEGO Movie 2. I have actually not seen the first movie so I did not know what to expect. I often find myself bored during children's movies, but to my surprise I actually enjoyed this movie and laughed out loud quite a few times. I also loved the underlying message about teamwork and harmony. We had children ages 5 to 12 in attendance at the movie and everyone loved it! My favorite character was Unikitty - just wait until you see what she can do in this movie!
After we watched the movie it was time to play the game! It was fun to relive all of the action of the movie in the game as the game for the most part follows the narrative of the movie. The game centers around the premise of alien monsters invading Bricksburg and leaving it in ruins - it is now up to Emmet and the other characters to go beyond their world and save their friends. Players will journey into many worlds including the Systar System, outer space and other worlds from both movies. Players can chose to play as their favorite characters, whether it be Emmet, Lucy or LEGO Batman, or one of the new movie's characters including General Mayhem and Rex Dangervest. In all, there are over 100 characters to unlock in the game, and each of them has their own skills that are unique to them. I really loved the drop-in/drop-out and co-op experience which lets any player join in at any time. Just like the movie, the game is a great example of how to work together to explore all the worlds and solve all the puzzles. There are new rewards and missions around every corner, guaranteeing to keep all players on their toes and entertained. Although we played the game for a couple of hours, I know there is still a TON left to be discovered!
This is an action-packed game with amazing graphics, catchy songs and lots of silliness along the way. In true LEGO fashion, it also features a lot of humor so not only is it fun to play, it's also fun to watch. At a time when the latest video game craze seems centered around virtual killing, this is a welcome change. I'm excited to explore the game more!
My 11-year-old son, who would play video games 24/7 if I would let him, gives this game 2 thumbs up! He said it was easy to catch on, especially with the dialogue that gives you hints on what to do.
The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is a 2 player game and has an EBS rating of E10+. It retails for $39.99.
When not playing the game, party goers were entertained with LEGO-themed photo booth props and getting tangled up in a LEGO-inspired Twister game. Each child also got a "Star-Stuck Emmet" buildable figure to take home. All in all, it was a bricktastic time!
