The Dragon vs. The Hiccups & Other Winning Plays brings to life the imagination of young playwrights on Florida Studio Theatre’s Keating Stage. Wise, heartfelt, and often hilarious this anthology of award-winning short plays highlights the most creative and imaginative writing from Elementary school students. Directed by Associate Artist Jason Cannon, and performed by a cast of FST acting apprentices, these authentic stories from the minds of children contain laughter, lessons, and learning for us all.

Cannon comments on the unique perspective that young playwrights bring to the stage. “Children write plays that adults are incapable of writing, and tell stories that adults have forgotten how to write.  By teaching young people not only what plays are, but then empowering them to write their own plays, we then have the great honor of staging those plays.  Watching a parent see their child’s play professionally produced, not only is the child transformed, but the parent’s understanding of their child is exploded in the most exciting way.”

The Dragon vs. The Hiccups & Other Winning Plays concludes FST’s Inaugural Children’s Theatre Series. Director of Children’s Theatre, Caroline Kaiser shares her excitement stating, “I couldn’t think of a better way to end our Children’s Theatre Series than with our celebration of winning plays written by children. The Dragon vs. the Hiccups & Other Winning Plays represents everything that we at Florida Studio Theatre champion in children’s and family programming. This compilation of plays written by children provides children with a chance to tell their story, expand their minds, and celebrate creativity.”

The Dragon vs. The Hiccups & Other Winning Plays by various young playwrights will play on April 29 and May 6 at 11:00am, and May 13 at 11:00am and 1:00pm. Tickets are only $10 and are available online or by calling the FST Box Office at 941-366-9000.
