Pedro Reis and Dolly Jacobs, two extraordinary circus artists, founded and dedicated their lives to the mission of their non-profit, The Circus Arts Conservatory. For nearly two decades they’ve raised Circus Sarasota’s Big Top to present the best in circus artistry to Southwest Florida. With a passion for preserving and enhancing the circus arts, this year’s performances will continue in that tradition. For three weeks – from Friday, February 10 through Sunday, March 5, 2017 – Florida’s Gulf Coast will be captivated by Circus Sarasota’s SYNERGY, a circus experience beyond compare. From now through early March the Big Top will be located in Nathan Benderson Park behind the Mall at University Town Center.
The headliner for this riveting production Nik Wallenda has conquered Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon and the skyscrapers of Chicago. Here, in his hometown of Sarasota, he will thrill audiences with a new awe-inspiring and historic performance atop the high wire. As an added touch of excitement, the performance will include three former students from America’s most beloved youth circus, the Sailor Circus! These amazing alumni have gone from performing in The Greatest “Little” Show on Earth to performing with Nik himself. This year, Wallenda and his troupe are preparing a perilous feat demanding impeccably accurate timing, tempo and trust. Their thrilling multi-person high wire stunts inspire an air of anticipation and exhilaration so palpable, the entire Big Top will be holding their breath!
Other amazing acts feature talented artists from around the world including Russian hula hoop artist extraordinaire and three-time Guinness World Record holder Alesya Gulevich, and award- winners, Comic Trio Fumagalli who will ignite laughter with their madcap clowning. Emily and Menno Van Dyke are a French ballerina and an award-winning tempo juggler from Amsterdam who met between the Eiffel Tower and Champs-Elysées and will dazzle you with the resulting romantic fusion of tango and juggling. Cuban acrobatic artists Leosvel and Diosmani run, climb, slide and support each other while balancing precariously from a 20 foot pole astounding all with their strength! There will be the equestrian excitement of the Thundering Hooves from the steppes of Russia and the Pompeyo Family will show off their delightful rescue dogs. Making her American debut, 13 year-old Russian Olesya Fedotova will have you on the edge of your seat as you watch her award-winning hand balancing and contortion performance. Of course, no Circus Sarasota Winter Production would be complete without world-famous aerialist, 2015 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellow and undisputed "Queen of the Air," Dolly Jacobs and her talented partner, Rafael Palacios. Together they soar high overhead to perform an aerial pas de deux.
Circus Sarasota's 2017 Winter Performance, SYNERGY, will run for three consecutive weeks - with 32 performances taking place from Friday, February 10th through Sunday, March 5th - at the Circus Sarasota Big Top, located at Nathan Benderson Park behid the Mall at University Town Center.
