I joined forces with Jaime, the publisher from Macaroni Kid Sarasota/Venice, and together with our husbands we took it on! The room we experienced was the Corporate Spy room, and the backstory behind this room is that a competing firm has stolen our new product design! Once in their office, we will have one hour to figure out where the million dollar prototype is hidden and steal it back! We are equipped with two flashlights, a security badge and a walkie talkie before we are locked in and the clock starts ticking. The object of the game is to search high and low, solving puzzles and unlocking clues to the whereabouts of the stolen prototype. But don't worry! You are monitored by the staff at Escape Reality the whole time so if you are really stuck or they see you are way off base, they can send you clues. I don't want to give too much away here, but I have to say it was very challenging! So...did we make it out in time? Sadly, no. But we were close! And I felt better to learn that the success rate of escaping is only 30% to 40%!
There will eventually by 7 escape rooms, all created by the owners Michael and Suzan. Planned themes include an "Indiana Jones" type adventure room, a "Descent into Madness" room which will be perfect for Halloween and a "Toy Room" just in time for Christmas.
For those who might be hesitant about being locked in - you aren't REALLY locked in! You can leave at any time. And if you are worried that you won't be able to escape, ask for an "easier" room when you book your room!
Don't be in a hurry to leave after you escape (or not) because there is so much more fun to be had! First, start with the bathrooms! No, really! It's an adventure all on it's own. Enjoy snacks and a drink at the Puzzle Bar or have food and drink brought in from one of the surrounding restaurants. The psychedelic-themed lounge seats 15+ people and is a great place to relax before or after your escape. It is open to the gaming area as well as their large assortment of drones and virtual reality sets, all available for sale. In addition, Escape Reality will be hosting weekly Family Fun Nights geared for families with children ages 8+, Trivia Nights, Robotic Leagues and even a Comedy Improv class led by Improv artist Christine Alexander.
